Perusahaan Pelayaran PT. Prima Karya Maritim didirikan berdasarkan Akta Notaris Winadi Wiranata, SH pada tanggal 8 Juni 1990 dan disahkan oleh MenKeh Hukum dan HAM dengan nama Perseroan Terbatas (PT) PRIMA KARYA MARITIM. 

PT. Prima Karya Maritim adalah sebuah perusahaan yang bergerak dibidang pelayaran khususnya angkutan laut untuk Pelayaran Nasional, Angkutan Danau dan Sungai, Keagenan dan Tehknisi Kapal serta dibidang Bongkar Muat Cargo.

PT. Prima Karya Maritim saat ini telah menjalin hubungan kerja sama operasional  sebagai Rekanan bisnis dari berbagai Perusahaan Nasional, serta beberapa Perusahaan milik Negara ( BUMN ) yang berada di wilayah Banjarmasin, serta pemilik/ agen kapal-kapal Niaga dan umum. Selain itu, demi menunjang kelancaran kerja serta pengembangan Peusahaan, PT. Prima Karya Maritim juga menjalin beberapa hubungan kerjasama dengan Perusahaan BUMN PELINDO III Banjarmasin dalam hal penyuplaian kebutuhan kapal Assist Pandu dan Tunda serta beberapa Perusahaan Pertambangan guna menyuplai kebutuhan  perdagangan Batubara.

Disamping itu,dalam Usaha pengembangan Kerja sama Usaha pasokan Batubara, PT. Prima Karya Maritim juga telah menjalin kerja sama dengan PT. PLN guna memasok kebutuhan Batu bara di beberapa anak perusahaan PLN.
